Note for ContentDM: Do not subdivide further than second level (e.g. do not include Format) when describing photographs for UA Digital Collections. This level of granularity is accounted for in the metadata scheme through the Format field.

Note for ContentDM: The following headings are handled by the Metadata scheme worked out by the UW Libraries Metadata Implementation Group (MIG) and us. It is therefore not necessary to use the following structure for describing images in the UA Digital Collections. They are accounted for, respectively, through the metadata fields of Materials, Substrates, and Processes.

  • Branding
    • -- may subd by writer name. see authority file
  • Conversations
    • Authority - mark exerting official power
    • Criticism - similar to art criticism. comment critical of original piece or author
    • Debate - an ongoing commentary and rebuttal about the mesage from multiple authors
    • Parody - mark makes a pun or parody of original text
    • Protest - one author, often illicit, challenging the legitimacy of another, often official
    • Suggestions - friendly suggestions, advice, tips, pointers
